Luffa are a genus of subtropical/tropical gourds! They can be harvested young and eaten, but are more commonly known for their use as scrubbing sponges, when they are harvested mature, and their fibers are fully developed. Luffa are vining plants that can grow up to 30', they enjoy full sun, plenty of water, and well-drained soil!
